The Robe of The Priest

The Robe of the PriestBut Jesus held his peace. And the high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God. Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven. Then the high priest rent his clothes, saying, He hath spoken blasphemy; what further need have we of witnesses? behold, now ye have heard his blasphemy. What think ye? They answered and said, He is guilty of death. (Matthew 26:63-66 KJV)

Patriarchs rent their clothes
And Jacob rent his clothes, and put sackcloth upon his loins, and mourned for his son many days. (Genesis 37:34 KJV)

Military Leaders rent their clothes
And Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, which were of them that searched the land, rent their clothes: (Numbers 14:6 KJV)

Kings rent their clothes
Then the king arose, and tare his garments, and lay on the earth; and all his servants stood by with their clothes rent. (2 Samuel 13:31 KJV)

And it came to pass, when Ahab heard those words, that he rent his clothes, and put sackcloth upon his flesh, and fasted, and lay in sackcloth, and went softly. (1 Kings 21:27 KJV)

Prophets rent their clothes
And Elisha saw it, and he cried, My father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereof. And he saw him no more: and he took hold of his own clothes, and rent them in two pieces. (2 Kings 2:12 KJV)

What about Caiphas what was significant about him tearing his clothes?
And there was an hole in the midst of the robe, as the hole of an habergeon, with a band round about the hole, that it should not rend. (Exodus 39:23 KJV)

Why would God design the Priests robes so they wouldn’t tear?

And Moses said unto Aaron, and unto Eleazar and unto Ithamar, his sons, Uncover not your heads, neither rend your clothes; lest ye die, and lest wrath come upon all the people: but let your brethren, the whole house of Israel, bewail the burning which the Lord hath kindled. (Leviticus 10:6 KJV)

And he that is the high priest among his brethren, upon whose head the anointing oil was poured, and that is consecrated to put on the garments, shall not uncover his head, nor rend his clothes; (Leviticus 21:10 KJV)

See the High Priest was never to rend his clothes
Why not?
Because the high priest was the closest person to God in the kingdom
Rending clothes means there is no hope it means that there is despair and because he was closest to God he never had to despair because he always had the presence of God with Him

What does that mean for us?
And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent; (Matthew 27:51 KJV)

And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. (Revelation 1:6 KJV)

We are now High Priests

Christ tore the veil apart for us making us priest and because we are priests we never have to despair because Christ is always with us
No matter how big our problem our God is greater!

Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. (1 John 4:4 KJV)
